More than 360 pounds of turkey feeds more than 300 people on Thanksgiving in Carmi. An assortment of folks come together each year and this Thanksgiving was no different. A larger than average collection of volunteers worked in assembly line fashion to fill orders. Some were delivered to jail, others to shut ins or those without family and friends to gather with on the holiday.
The community celebration happens through the cooperation of many including the First Christian Church, Little Giant Grocery, and about 50 other volunteers. Those volunteers perform jobs whether its preparing food, delivering meals or giving rides and also servers. More than 250 meals alone were delivered this year and Templeton expected about a hundred more who will eat at the fellowship hall whether they’re volunteers or those just in search of a warm meal and fellowship.
