Kids of all ages will find something to stay active and out in the sun!
There’s a lot to do for kids in Carmi in the summertime!
The Carmi Recreational Summer League has divisions for Tball all the way through Pony Baseball (from ages 5 to 14) for boys and girls, drawing around 400 kids in the league each year. Games are played at Bradshaw Park, starting with an Opening Day ceremony the day before Mother’s Day and run through early July for the regular league. Many of those same kids also play on PONY (Protect Our Nation’s Youth) travel teams. These teams play on weekends and sometimes through the week, too. PONY tournaments are held in July. These travel teams are based on age (7-8 year olds are called Pinto, 9-10 year olds are called Bronco, 11-12 year olds are called Pony and sometimes there’s also a 13-14 year old team, which is called Colt). The CRSL is a Carmi tradition dating back to the late 1950s.

American Legion Baseball for high school age baseball players has been a summer staple in Carmi for decades. Their season usually starts shortly after high school baseball season is over and runs through mid to late July. They also have a postseason tournament every year. The Legion team plays its home games at Eckerle Park.
The Carmi Bullfrogs swim team also draws triple digits participants every year. They have usually 8 to 10 meets per summer (including the Carmi Invitational). The Bullfrogs attracts kids from around 5 to 18. They swim in the Illiana Conference and also some kids earn the right to compete at an All-Star meet in Millstadt every year. They have their home meets at the Carmi Municipal Pool (which is also where they practice).
