Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) ensures public access to records of public bodies.

The City Clerk is designated as the FOIA Officer, responsible for handling all initial requests for city records. Requests should be submitted at the City Clerk’s office in Carmi, Illinois, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. If the City Clerk is unavailable, the Economic Development Director serves as the Deputy FOIA Officer. Unless records are provided immediately, the FOIA Officer or their designee will receive requests, ensure timely responses, and issue replies under the Act. The FOIA Officer maintains a list of documents or categories of records available for immediate disclosure upon request. (Ord. 1421, 6-7-2010)

At the first regular meeting in May of each election year, the Mayor appoints the following standing committees. Budget and Employment

The City of Carmi and Carmi Light and Water appropriated a budget of $26,481,475 for 2023. (Ordinance No. 1600, passed March 21, 2023)

The City employs approximately 70 full-time and 50 part-time/seasonal staff members.
