Carmi Mayor Jeff Pollard signed a proclamation for National Small Business week, which is May 12-16, 2014. The proclamation reads:
“WHEREAS, the City of Carmi, Illinois recognizes and values the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit of small businesses that keep the State and American economy growing stronger; and
WHEREAS, it is the collaborative mission of the City working in partnership with the Carmi Chamber of Commerce, White County Economic Development Group and other organizations to help our businesses grow and create new jobs within the greater Carmi region by providing exemplary workforce training, financial assistance programs, research and technical assistance; and
WHEREAS, the City of Carmi appreciates the support provided to our small businesses by the Carmi
Chamber of Commerce, White County Economic Development Group and other organizations; and
WHEREAS, small businesses throughout Illinois also receive assistance through the United
States Small Business Administration (SBA), created through the ratification of the Small Business Act in 1953
with the mission to maintain and strengthen the nation’s economy by providing access to capital, counseling,
training and contracting to entrepreneurs and small businesses and by assisting families and businesses
recovering from natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, during the week of May 12 -16, 2014, the Small Business Administration and the Carmi Chamber of Commerce are celebrating Small Business Week;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jeff Pollard, Mayor of the City of Carmi, do hereby proclaim May 12 -16, 2014, as “Small Business Week” in Carmi and urge all citizens to acknowledge and celebrate the
achievements made by small business both locally and nationally”
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Holly Healy stated, “Small business makes up a large portion of the Chamber’s membership. National Small Business Week reminds us of the value and importance of small business, not only nationally, but right here in Carmi as well. We appreciate Mayor Pollard taking time to recognize National Small Business Week and the importance of having small businesses in our community.”
