MINUTES City Council Meeting City of Carmi October 18, 2022

The Carmi City Council met Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Room of the Municipal Building, 225 East Main Street for the regularly scheduled meeting.

Prior to opening the council meeting, Mayor Pollard asked Alderman Hays to give the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Pollard presided with the following Aldermen present: Mark W. Blake, Tracy Nelson, James Totten, Mike Knight, Jeremy Courson, and Doug Hays. Absent: Steve Winkleman and Sheila Headlee.

The minutes from the October 4, 2022 council meeting were presented. Motion was made by Alderman Courson and seconded by Alderman Totten to approve the minutes as presented. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”

The September 2022 Financial Reports for the City of Carmi and Light and Water Departments were presented for approval. A motion was made by Alderman Courson and seconded by Alderman Blake to approve the September 2022 Financial reports. The motion carried on roll call by each Aldermen present answering “yes.”

The October 2022 vendor invoices for the City of Carmi and Light and Water Departments were presented for approval. A motion was made by Alderman Totten and seconded by Alderman Hays to approve the October 2022 vendor invoices. The motion carried on roll call by each Aldermen present answering “yes.”

Reports and/or updates from Mayor Pollard

Mayor Pollard opened up his report by thanking all of the City employees as well as City Police Officers who worked very hard to help host another safe and fun Corn Day.

The open house and dedication ceremony for the new police department was very well attended. Mayor Pollard stated, “Again, words are not even enough to say how proud and grateful I am of our City Employees that helped to make this vision become a reality.”

The City of Carmi will be hosting another electronic recycling day on October 29th from 9 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Newton Wire and Cable Building on Third Street. No early drop offs.

Once again, the City of Carmi and the Chamber of Commerce will be teaming up to host the Trunk-or-Treat event which will be held on Monday, October 31st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. behind the City building in the bank parking lot. Cherry Street will be closed between Walnut and Main Cross for all traffic from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for the safety of the trick-or-treaters.

November 1st, most of the campsites at Burrell Woods will be reservable online. There will be a few sites that will be non-reservable. You can go online at https://cityofcarmi.org/burrellwoodsonline/ or go to the City of Carmi App to access the reservation section under Burrell Campground.

Lastly, the City of Carmi is under a no burn notice until lifted by Fire Chief Larry Hite.

Reports from Standing Committees

Alderman Tracy Nelson complimented the Street Department on the work they done at the new City Police Department.

Business or Comments from Visitors

Cynthia Attebury reminded the Aldermen of the Kicks for Kids Shoe Giveback for Carmi to be held on Friday, October 28th starting at 8 a.m.at the Lion’s Club. Anyone wanting to help fit children for new shoes, can show up at the Carmi Lions Club any time after 8 a.m.

Closed Session to discuss personnel and property issues with action to follow:

None.

At 5:40 p.m. Alderman Courson made a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Alderman Blake. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”
