Minutes: City Council Meeting of May 1, 2018

The Carmi City Council Meeting was held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Room of the Municipal Building at 225 East Main Street for the regularly scheduled meeting.

Mayor Pollard asked Alderman Winkleman to give the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. 

Mayor Pollard presided with the following Aldermen present: Steve Winkleman, Mark W. Blake, Tracy Nelson, Lance Yearby, Mike Knight, Doug Hays, Jeremy Courson, and Sheila Jo Headlee.

Minutes from the April 17, 2018, council meeting were presented.  Motion was made by Alderman Hays and seconded by Alderman Blake to approve the minutes as presented.  The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.” 

Reports and/or updates from Mayor Pollard

Mayor Pollard stated we had beautiful weather for Opening Day.  He thanked the Parks Department, Summer Recreation League, and everyone involved for a great Opening Day.  

The Mayor announced the 4th Annual Charity Golf Scramble will be held on May 19, 2018, hosted by Stay Positive, Stay Aggressive, Inc. at the Carmi Country Club.  All proceeds will go to help local community members.

Reports from Standing Committees

Alderman Knight also thanked the employees and the Summer Recreational League for a great Opening Day.  Alderman Knight also stated that at Field #4, there is an issue with balls going under the fence into the road.  He will look at ways to alleviate this problem.

Alderman Knight stated about two weeks ago, there were approximately 17 members of the Democratic Party who went out and cleaned up trash along the highway by Trelleborg.  They had approximately 25 bags of trash.

Business or Comments from Visitors

Greg Hays from the Campfire Club will be hosting a luncheon tomorrow, May 2, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for Campfire Club members, City Departments, and City officials who have helped in getting the shower houses redone at Burrell Park Campground.  They look extremely well.

  At 5:36 p.m. the council adjourned.
