James “Old Beaver” Ratcliff built the Ratcliff Inn in 1828, and was once considered one of the finer hotels in the state of Illinois. The White County Historical Society bought the structure in 1960 and rehabilitated it, opening it again as a museum. It’s still open on special occasions and by appointment.
